Experience of Bangalore INIFDian Anurag Pareek & Mohana V As Assistant Fashion Designers At 15th Edition of BFW Winters 2016
I’ve been attending Bangalore Fashion Week the 2nd time which is the 15th edition recently took place & this time it was Fall/Winter Festive Collection at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Bangalore.
Unlike the last season, this time it was something more for me than just attending a Fashion Week. I hereby got an opportunity to work as an Assistant Fashion Designer with the Label “KOENS COUTURE” by NUPUR SAHOO with my batch mate Mohana Vysyaraju & another Assistant Designer for the Label Koens Couture, Shrikant. Before going through my experience I would like to mention, Bangalore is easily one of my favorite cities. Even though I know it very well, there is always something new to discover: store, designer, the city itself as a Fashion Hub & much more. Bangalore Fashion Week is a bi-annual Fashion Week held in Bangalore covering the South sector out of the two, following North: India Fashion Week, Delhi & Lakme Fashion Week for Central Sector in Mumbai.
COMING TO MY EXPERIENCE:
The Label “KOENS COUTURE” by Nupur Sahoo is Orissa’s well known Fashion Brand. It is known for its Real Handcrafted Designer Garments Specializing in Ethnic Wear in the Womens Wear Criteria. The Show for “Koens Couture” was Scheduled on 6.00 PM, 6th August 2016.
Not to mention, but, my experience also included some of the backstage work as well. Being a Designer Assistant in the fashion week. We first started hanging the garments in a very uniform manner. Many were of the light weight to heavy weighted Lehengas. Once we started unfolding the garments, it was not just a dream come true moment for me, in fact when it caught my eyes over the beautiful motifs, prints, colors, textures, the fabric, its quality & whatnot to mention, it bound me speechless.
A look at the collection says it all, until unless you are a Fan with the craze for Ethnic Wear. The Second Image: When we got our Tags. Koens Couture is a handicraft fashion hub where they represent handicraft and fabrics of all state of India. Promoting hand embroidery, fine zardozi, aree work. Also weave and manufacture different variety of silk. They also put the Indian mythological art, Museum art, manuscript motif and Odisha’s silver filigri motifs on the Sarees & lehenga.
Around 28 Garments were showcased making a Collection Over the Runway in the Fashion Week. Some of the images Photographed while working before the show:
It was not just all about the work, we infact attended all the shows possible within the 4 days of the Fashion Week. Lots of Fashion Designers, Models, Celebrities, Media, and well known Personalities & the audience highlighted the show by lots of cheers & attention. Fashion Designers were at their best as always with their collection & so were the showstoppers & other Models. These were the most Glamorous possible hours of our work.
We also ended up discussing about the make-up for the Models which could actually reflect their look with the touch of our Indian Ethnic Garments on the Ramp. There was this fitness check of Garments to fit the Models. Backstage work was actually long enough to consume the time & so was relaxing after a long waiting & minor alteration requirements, especially the last moment alteration & final fit test work which also was inclusive of the steaming work. We later arranged the Fashion Accessories with the Garments for the models. In between we also ended up discussing about the trends, ethnic wear, and textiles. We spoke to the Designer about her Startup of her label KOENS COUTURE & her inspiration behind this… for which her husband Dr. Kailash Biswal (Doctor & Intensivisit (ICU) by his profession) was the backbone.
KOENS COUTURE also has INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS from The United States of America & the British Isles.

And thus, there was 7th of July, the last day of Bangalore Fashion Week for the fall/ Winter Season. And so, we did Had a Real Good Experience working with the Fashion Designer for BANGALORE FASHION WEEK as Designers. “It was not Work we did but it was more a hobby where we enjoyed working”.
